Aftercare Instructions
What to Expect
- Initially: Some bleeding, localised swelling, tenderness & bruising.
- During healing: Some discolouration, itching, secretion of a white, straw-coloured fluid (not pus) that will form some crusts around the jewellery.
Clean It Right
Wash your hands before touching your piercing.
- Clean twice daily with a sterile saline solution.
- Gently dab with a clean, non-fiber towel or gauze
- Never rotate the jewelry.
Avoid:
-
Harsh products like alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or ointments.
- Sleeping on the piercing.
- Swimming (pools, beaches) for at least 3 weeks.
When Can I Change My Jewelry?
Even if it looks healed, it might not be. Let your body do its thing. Healing times vary:
-
Lobe: 6–8 weeks , Cartilage: 3–6 months
- Your first change? Let us help. Visit Tanzire for a safe switch and style upgrade.
Signs of infection to watch for
Mild redness and tenderness in the first few days is normal. But please seek medical care immediately if you face any of these:
- Swelling that grows after the first 48 hours
- Redness spreading beyond the piercing site
- Throbbing pain or heat around the area
- Any discharge, especially green or yellow
- Fever
- The jewelry appearing to sink into the skin
A note on healing:
Cartilage piercings take longer to heal than lobe piercings, sometimes up to a year. Piercing carries an inherent risk of infection, and while we take every precaution with jewelry choice, hygiene, and proper technique, individual healing varies. If something feels off, don’t wait. Reach out to us or see a doctor early.
